A man was killed when a fire swept through a part of Kalshi Dighirpar area in the port city’s EPZ area yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Abdul Karim (103), said Faruk Hossen Sikder, deputy assistant director, fire service.
The fire started from a house in the area around 11:00am. Eleven firefighting units brought the blaze under control around 1:30pm, he added.
Firefighters recovered the body of Karim from a house. The fire that gutted at least 66 houses and shops rendered many homeless. During a visit to the area, many were seen trying to salvage their belongings. The official said they are conducting a probe to find out the cause of the fire.
