The election inquiry committee formed by the Election Commission has issued a show-cause notice to Shamsul Hoque Tuku, a Awami League nominated candidate for Pabna-1 constituency, for breaching the electoral code of conduct.
District and Sessions Judge Ikramul Kabir, head of the committee, acknowledged the matter on Wednesday afternoon and said the committee asked the Tuku to explain his action within two working days.
The notice mentioned that Tuku during a meeting with teachers of different local government and private educational institutions at his home on December 14 sought votes for the Awami League.
The committee show-caused the AL candidate after getting complain from the independent candidate Prof Abu Sayeed, a former state minister for information from the Awami League, on Monday in this regard.
Meanwhile, according to the Election Commission, no candidate would engage in electioneering before December 18.
