President for ensuring transparency at all levels

President Mohammed Shahabuddin Wednesday asked all officers and employees of Bangabhaban to ensure neutrality, transparency and accountability at all levels of their respective assignments.

“We have to ensure impartiality, transparency and accountability at all levels . . . We have to think of enhancing reputation of Bangabhaban,” he said.

The Head of State said this while exchanging greetings with all military and civil officers and employees of Bangabhaban at its Durbar Hall here this noon.

Every officer and employees of Bangabhaban will perform their duties with devotion, honesty and sincerity and strive to shine the image of Bangabhaban, he expected.

He said, “So every activity of you (Bangabhaban officials-employees) should be such service-oriented so that people can put trust and confidence in you.”

Mohammed Shahabuddin said there is no alternative to honesty and a justice-based, knowledge-based and enlightened public administration to establish good governance in the country.

“You will be guided by the laws, rules and regulations of the government and public interest as well… But remember that all laws are made for the welfare of the people,” the President added.

Mentioning Bangabhaban as a monument of country’s history and tradition, he said the hard labour, talent and sincerity of every employee working here (Bangabhaban) are mixed with it.

The officers and employees of Bangabhaban would provide their relentless efforts for the development and progress of the country, the President hoped.

President Shahabuddin said Bangabandhu’s dream of establishing a hunger-and-poverty-free “Sonar Bangla” is on its way to be materialized at present under the charismatic and efficient leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the daughter of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu.

“Bangladesh has already graduated to the status of a developing country from the status of the least developed countries,” he added.

The President also urged everyone to play an active role from their respective positions to continue this trend of ongoing development of the country.

Shahabuddin said all the officers and employees should take care so that the people can get their expected services easily and smoothly.

“Always remember you are the servant of the people, not their master,” the President said.

Referring to the August 15, 1975 carnage, the President said, “The history of Bangabhaban is not only one of arrogance and pride, but the killer gang hatched the deep-rooted conspiracy to kill Bangabandhu along with his family members, sitting in this Bangabhaban.”

President Shahabuddin said some traitors have also helped the murderer but the history has not forgiven them as they have been thrown into the dustbin of history.

Through the assassination of Bangabandhu, he said, they wanted to wipe out his principles and ideals from the soil and heart of the people of Bengal but they could not do that.

Valiant Freedom Fighter Shahabuddin said Bangabandhu today is the source of inspiration not only for Bangladeshis but also for the freedom-seeking people of the whole world.

At the outset of his speech, the President paid tribute to the greatest Bengali of all times Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, all the martyrs of the Bangabandhu family who were assassinated on August 15, valiant freedom fighters, four national leaders and the people who sacrificed their lives for sake of the country, its democracy and its people.

President Shahabuddin expressed gratitude and thanks to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and all the members of Parliament who voted for him as the President.

He called upon everyone to work unitedly to build hunger-and poverty-free ‘Sonar Bangla’ envisioned by Bangabandhu and “Smart Bangladesh” designed by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
