Proposed budget to boost people’s aspirations: lawmakers

Lawmakers today said the proposed budget will help to fulfil hope and aspiration of the common people of the country as the proposed budget has preferred life and livelihood of the people.

Taking part in the general discussion on the proposed budget for 2021-22 fiscal in the Jatiya Sangsad, the lawmakers said the proposed budget will create huge employment, cut poverty and build a digitalized by 2021 and 2041.

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal on June 3 in the Jatiya Sangsad unveiled a Taka 6,03,681 crore national budget for 2021-22 fiscal setting the GDP growth target at 7.2 percent amid the economic fallout due to the novel corona virus pandemic.

After the Independence, country’s overall budget outlay was Taka 719 crore and now it has been increased to over Taka 6 lakh crore which is manifestation of development, nothing else, the treasury bench lawmakers told the parliament.

Participating in the proposed budget discussion, Deputy Minister for Water Resources Enamul Haque Shamim said the government has preferred health, education and employment generation.

At the same time, he said the government has preferred health protection of the people from pandemic and it has been appreciated throughout the world.

Criticizing the proposed budget, Jatiya Party lawmaker Pir Fazlur Rahman said the proposed budget outlay is Taka 6,03681 crore —where overall budget deficit is Taka 2,14,681 crore and total revenue collection has been fixed at Tk 392,490 crore, adding so, it is not understandable how the budget will be realized.

Even the government has imposed 15 percent tax on the private sector university which would hamper overall development of the country, said the opposition lawmaker.

Demanding more allocation for the health sector, another opposition lawmaker Syed Abul Hossain of Dhaka-4 said government should to revise the budget and urged to give at least 2 percent of the GDP for the health sector to fight against the novel corona virus pandemic as now only 1 percent has been earmarked in the proposed budget.

Treasury bench members, Ramesh Chandra Sen of Thakurgaon-1, Iqbal Hossen of Shariatpur-1, Begum Nadira Yeasmin Joly of Women seat-42, Nasiruddin Jashore-2, Naheed Ezahar Khan of Women seat-5, Yousuf Abdullah Harun of Cumilla-3, Tanvir Imam of Sirajganj-4, SM Shahjada of Patuakhali-3, Nesar Ahmed of Moulvibazar-3, Ahsanul Islam Titu of Tangail-6, and BNP lawmaker Mosharraf Hossen of Bogura-4, took part in the discussion.

Earlier, they paid their cordial tribute to the memory of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, four national leaders, martyred freedom fighters and also those who made their utmost sacrifices during the War of Liberation and all subsequent democratic movements in the country.
