Quader warns against illegal allocation of hall seats

Obaidul Quader, Road Transport and Bridges Minister and General secretary of Bangladesh Awami League, has warned those involved in running a trade on university admissions and hall seat allocation.

“List is being prepared of those involved in running a trade on university admission, seat allocation, political rooms in residential halls, and they will not be spared. They are ruining the image of Awami League,” he said yesterday at a discussion titled ‘Spark of dreams and potentials – Sheikh Russel’ at the University Laboratory School and College premises organised by the Institute of Education and Research of Dhaka University.

The discussion was organized to mark the 59th birthday of Sheikh Russel, the youngest son of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. At the meeting, scholarships and special grants were also provided to students of the school Sheikh Russel went to.

Obaidul Quader also warned those who are doing “misdeeds” in the name of Awami League.

“Those committing misdeeds will not get Awami League nomination in the next election. This is a clear directive from the leader. Mend your ways.”

Regarding BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s reaction to the Prime Minister’s statement on a possible food shortage, Quader said, while highlighting the global situation, the Prime Minister said that there is a possibility of famine in the future. The IMF and the World Bank predicted it and Sheikh Hasina just referred to that.

“What wrong did he see here? Did anyone die in Bangladesh?” – he questioned.

“We have a little oil shortage. We’re trying to overcome it. We also have an energy cooperation agreement with Brunei,” he said.

Awami League presidium member Begum Matia Chowdhury presided over the event, presidium member Abdur Rahman, central executive committee member Anwar Hossain, Anisur Rahman and other Awami League leaders participated in the programme as the keynote speakers.

The program was inaugurated by Professor Mohammad Abdul Halim, Director of Education and Research Institute of Dhaka University and conducted by Awami League relief and social welfare sub-committee member secretary Sujit Roy Nandi.
