Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB) will start strict agitation with REHAB members and land owners if the construction rules are not amended within the next 15 days. At the same time, from now on, REHAB members will construct buildings in the light of building plan as per existing rules 2008 and BNBC 2020. This decision was taken today in the board meeting of Rehab on November 11. In the meeting, the rehab leaders expressed their anger over the delay in revising the DAP and rules.
Rehab leaders said that several meetings were held with various stakeholders at different levels including the chairman of RAJUK to revise the rules. RAJUK Chairman seeks proposal from REHAB within 10 working days. A detailed proposal to amend the rules is given by Rehab in a quick time (within 7 days). Although Rehab has kept its word, Rajuk has repeatedly promised to amend the rules, but has not taken any effective measures in this regard so far. As a result, the entire housing sector has come to a standstill as land owners are not willing to give any land for developing land due to discriminatory new rules. As a result, flats are becoming vacant and the prices of flats are increasing rapidly. All kinds of citizens’ dreams are fading.
In the meeting, Rehab President Md. Wahiduzzaman said that due to non-amendment of construction rules, there is extreme dissatisfaction among all types of citizens including land owners, developers. Bangladesh has more population than land. If the decision is not taken in view of the reality, a terrible crisis will be created in the future. Agricultural land is being depleted every year to build new homes. We must lift the building upwards.
Various directors of Rehab said that the economy has a great relationship with the construction sector. The linkage industry depends on us. Linkage industries are currently suffering due to stagnation in our housing industry. This sector contributing 15 percent to the GDP will decrease in the future. Government must take effective measures in this regard.
Rehab leaders said in the meeting, we have held several meetings in various institutions including Ministry of Public Works, Rajuk. Our backs are against the wall. If the construction rules are not amended within 15 days, we have no other option but to start a tough movement with all stakeholders. The government must take a decision at the earliest. Various Vice Presidents of Rehab and Directors of Rehab were present in the meeting.
