Mentioning that BNP is jealous of the government achievement in increasing remittance income, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Tuesday said BNP is trying to create a financial crisis by discouraging expatriates from sending money to Bangladesh through legal channels.
BNP is a political party which wants to create a situation like Sri Lanka in Bangladesh. So BNP leaders are not happy with the good news of increase in remittances, said the minister.
He made the statement in a press release issued on Tuesday to condemn and protest the remarks of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
About the media reports on the sudden rise in the flow of remittance from the US, Fakhrul on Monday said it is surprising. “What magic is behind the rise in remittances from America? People are saying the thieves are bringing back the money that they have stolen and siphoned off America.
Referring to Fakhrul’s statement, Quader said that BNP is always jealous about the progress and success of Bangladesh, which has been revealed repeatedly through the negative statements of Mirza Fakhrul. The same was echoed in Mirza Fakhrul’s well-intentioned statement about increasing remittance flows from the US. It is natural that those who only look at foreign masters like Jacobin cuckoo with the request of sanctions against the country and people, they will not be able to accept the good news of increase in remittances in any way.
Obaidul Quader believes that the remittance flow has increased due to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s timely decision to provide a 2.5% incentive on remittances sent by expatriates.
He said: “At the same time, due to the successful leadership of Bangabandhu’s daughter, the strong economic structure of Bangladesh has been established and Bangladesh has been recognized as a safe place for investment, so Bangladeshi expatriates are encouraged to invest in the country as well as foreign investors.”
Pointing out that there is no reason for the Awami League to be worried about the new visa policy of the United States, he said: “Instead, BNP has become frightened because of this. BNP has been identified as a terrorist organization in the international arena for its arson attacks and destructive activities which claimed the lives of hundreds of innocent people and for sponsoring radical sectarian militancy and terrorist activities.”
Even the High Court of Canada recognized BNP as a terrorist organization. But instead of repenting of their past misdeeds, they are indulging in new conspiracies, he added.
The statement said: “Democracy and voting rights have been established in Bangladesh through the end of a long autocracy under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina. Specific laws for the formation of the Election Commission have been enacted and the overall capacity of the electoral system has been increased, including the development of infrastructure and expansion of technical facilities.”
