Saber Hossain leaves for Kenya to attend UN Environment Assembly

Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Saber Hossain Chowdhury will depart for Kenya on Monday to attend the high-level segment of the 6th Session of the United Nations Environment Assembly in Nairobi.

Theme of this year’s UNEP Assembly is “Effective, inclusive and sustainable multilateral actions to tackle climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution.”  The UNEP Assembly is being held at a time when the world is confronting triple planetary emergency of climate change, nature and biodiversity loss and (plastic) pollution.

Minister Saber will actively engage in the high level segment of the assembly, deliver Bangladesh’s country statement and showcase the country’s successes in locally led adaptation, said a press release of the ministry.

He will highlight the importance of global unity and action, along with the need of national initiative and ownership in environmental protection.

The minister is scheduled to return home on March 3 after attending the UN Environment Assembly.

The world’s top decision-making body on the environment is meeting in Kenya’s capital on Monday to discuss how countries can work together to tackle environmental crises like climate change, pollution and loss of biodiversity.

The meeting in Nairobi is the sixth session of the United Nations Environment Assembly, and governments, civil society groups, scientists and the private sector are attending.
