“The perpetrators of violence have caused significant damage to important infrastructures, including the metro rail. We have identified many involved in the metro rail violence, and we have already arrested four leaders. We have their names and numbers, and our team is actively searching. for their whereabouts,” he said while talking to reporters at the Minto Road DB office on Sunday (July 28).
Harun highlighted the destructive actions of the agitators but assured that no innocent individuals will be harassed in the process.
Among the arrested are three leaders of the student wing of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
“We have detained Imam Al Naser, General Secretary of Shahidullah Hall’s Chhatra Dal unit at Dhaka University; Bazlur Rahman Bijoy, Senior Joint General Secretary of Bijoy Ekattor Hall’s Chhatra Dal unit; and Ferdous Rubel, Vice-President of Chhatra Dal at the National University ,” Harun revealed.
He went on saying, “We were previously unaware of the existence of a Chhatra Dal committee at the National University. They, along with their associates, created chaos in the Mirpur 10 area, vandalized the metro rail, set fires at various locations, and attacked police officers on duty.”
Harun emphasized that those who destroy state property, ignite fires, attack police officers and kill innocent civilians mistaking them for police are not supporters of Bangladesh. “They cannot escape by hiding. DB will find each one of them and bring them to justice. We will ensure that no innocent individuals are wrongfully harassed,” he added.
When asked about the detention of the coordinators of the quota reform movement, Harun said, “In addition to investigating crimes, it is the responsibility of law enforcement agencies to provide security to those who feel threatened.”
