Saint Gregory HS emerges champions: Viqarunnisa retain title

Saint Gregory High School emerged boys groups champions while Viqarunnisa Noon School and College retained girls group title of the Polar Icecream 27th School Handball tournament held Tuesday at Shaheed Captain M Mansur Ali National Handball Stadium in the city.

In the day’s final, Saint Gregory High School beat Narida Government High School by 35-24 goals after leading the first half by 16-9 goals.

Arafat was the highest scorer with 10 goals for Saint Gregory while Rafi scored 12 goals for Narida Government High School.

On the other hand, Sunnydale School finished third in the boys group defeating Residential Model College by 21-16 goals after dominating the first half by 10-9 goals with Ahoyan Ahmed scored highest six goal for the winners while Sami also netted six goals for the losers.

While Viqarunnisa Noon School and College retained the girls group title beating Sunnydale School by 12-6 goals in the final after leading the first half by 6-2 goals.

In the day’s final, Nousin and Mohtafin scored equal four goals each for the champions team while Mujdalifa netted three goals for runners-up team.

Earlier, in the day’s place-deciding match, Shaheed Bir Uttam Lieutenant Anwar Girls College finished third in the tournament beating Kadamtala Purbo Bashabo High School and College by 8-5 goals after the first half was locked by 3-3 goals.

In the day’s match, Humayora Islam scored three goals for the winners’ while Sumiya and Sanjida netted two goals apiece for the losers.

Arafat of Saint Gregory High School of Boys group and Ramicha Hasan of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College of girls group were given the man of the match awards for their impressive performance in the finals.

Parliament member Nahim Razzaq was the chief guest in the closing ceremony of the tournament and distributed the prizes among the champions and runners-up teams.

Dhaka Icecream Industries Limited’s Chief Executive Officer Shah Masud Imam was present as special guest in the closing ceremony.

Bangladesh Handball Federation’s (BHF) General Secretary Asaduzzaman Kohinoor presided over the closing ceremony.

Earlier on Monday last, Narida Government High School edged past Dhaka Residential Model College by 28-25 goals after leading the first half by 15-13 goals in the first boys group semifinal while Saint Gregory High School defeated Sunnydale School by 26-23 goals after the first half was locked 10-10 goals.

While in the girls group, Viqarunnisa Noon School and College thrashed Kadamtala Purbo Bashabo High School and College by 21-2 goals after leading the first half by 8-0 goals in the first semifinal while Sunnydale School defeated Shaheed Bir Uttam Lieutenant Anwar Girls College by 16-12 goals after trailing the first half by 5-6 goal.

A total of 40 teams of boys and girls group from 27 schools of Dhaka metropolis took part in the meet, organised by BHF and sponsored by Dhaka Icecream Industries Limited.
