Students at Sylhet Agricultural University (SAU) are boycotting classes and exams, demanding the resignation of the proctor and registrar, along with six other demands.
The general student body has been staging protests on campus since Tuesday morning.
The campus of Sylhet Agricultural University is in turmoil as students demand the resignation of the proctorial body. The students have also locked both the administrative and academic buildings.
Students allege that the administration failed to ensure their safety during the clash on October 24 allegedly between Chhatra Dal activists and outsiders.
The following day, the cluster admission test for the 2023-24 academic year undergraduate (honors) classes was held at the university.
Students also said that the statements given by various media afterward, involving them, were defamatory. They warned that the protests would continue until their demands are met.
Meanwhile, on the night of the clash, the central Chhatra Dal immediately announced the dissolution of the expired SAU unit Chhatra Dal committee.
Additionally, a former leader of the university unit Chhatra Dal was expelled from the party’s primary position. Moreover, a two-member investigation committee was formed by the central committee to uncover the truth behind the clash.
Professor Dr Mozammel Hoque, the university’s proctor, said: “We had a lengthy discussion with the students and listened to their demands. The vice-chancellor asked for some time to address their concerns, but the students have not agreed.”
