SB launches e-file system for quick services

Special Branch (SB) of Police launched the e-file management system aiming to ensure hassle free and quick services as part of the Awami League government’s mission for building a digital and smart Bangladesh, officials said.

Chief of the SB and Additional Inspector General (Addl-IG) of Police Md Monirul Islam launched the digital filing system (e-nothi) recently to provide quick services to the people.

“With the aim of implementing the Prime Minister’s directive, we launched the digital document management system (e-nothi) for ensuring hassle free quick services,” a high official of SB said.

He said e-governance is the public sector’s use of information and communication technologies with the aim of improving information and service delivery, encouraging citizen participation in the decision-making process and making government more accountable, transparent and effective.

“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s vision is to build a Smart Bangladesh by 2041 along with making it a developed country,” the official said.

Earlier, the SB launched “Hello SB” app to facilitate access to various services including e-passport, MRP, passport renewal and correction.

According to police, services such as e-passport, MRP, passport renewal and correction, immigration services, dual citizenship, visa issuance and renewal, registration, security clearance, NGO information, adoption, travel can be easily accessed through the mobile application.

The government introduced the system under the Information and Technology (ICT) Division with guidance of the Cabinet Division to bring transparency, dynamism, in the administration process and also to improve the government’s efficiency in e-file management system.

Digital file management system is a nationwide GoB document filing, handling and management system. Currently the system is being used by more than 7,840 public offices, at the upazila and district level, which is more than 41 per cent of the total number across the country.

ICT expert Naimuzzaman Mukta said the government first launched the e-file management system at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and phase by phase it was introduced at cabinet division and power division in 2016.

He said all government offices from the ministry to upazila level offices across the country have so far been connected to the system, while more than 120,000 users are currently using it (the system).

The use of ‘e-nothi’ or ‘e-filing’ in public offices under the Access to Information (a2i) Programme is leaping forward at a much quicker pace across the country despite a number of challenges, Mukta said.
