The government has decided to set up separate vaccination centres in the university healthcare centres and upazilas to inoculate students, teachers and education staffers.
The healthcare centres will be used as vaccination centres for students, teachers and education staff who have not yet received the shots despite having NIDs, an Education Ministry statement said on Thursday.
If needed, separate vaccination centres supervised by the Education Ministry and Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) will be set up in educational institutes in each district, it said.
According to the statement, the universities will collect data on every student within seven days and send the DGHS a list of those who have NIDs but haven’t yet registered.
Meanwhile, another list comprising of those who do not have NIDs but are above 18 years of age, will be sent to the Education Ministry.
The ministry will also seek the Election Commission’s cooperation in providing NIDs to those who don’t have it yet.
The government is likely to reopen universities and resume in-person classes from October 15.
The decision came during a Ministry of Education and Ministry of Primary and Mass Education meeting on Thursday evening.
However, the reopening depends on whether all the students and teachers have been vaccinated and might be deferred if the vaccination cannot be completed.
Meanwhile, closure of secondary and higher secondary institutions has been extended to September 11.
