A sub-inspector of the industrial police has been withdrawn for producing an industrialist Parvez Uddin of Chittagong, accused in a case filed over an explosion in Sitakunda on March 7, before court tying a rope around his waist.
The policeman named Arun Kanti Biswas has been asked to show cause in this regard within seven days.
Chittagong Industrial Police Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohammad Sulaiman confirmed this information on Thursday.
He said the incident is being investigated. Besides, SI Arun Kanti Biswas has been closed and a show cause notice has been issued. If there is no satisfactory answer in this regard then departmental action will be taken against him.
The picture of Seema Oxygen factory Director Parvez Uddin being produced in court with a rope around his waist went viral on social media, a lot of discussion and criticism sparked about it.
Later, action was taken against the policeman.
A Chittagong court on Wednesday granted a one-day remand to Parvez Uddin, one of the three directors of Seema Oxygen Plant in Chittagong’s Sitakunda area over the explosion.
Parvez Uddin was arrested by the Industrial Police on Tuesday.
At least seven people were killed and over 30 injured in a massive fire that broke out at the oxygen plant following an explosion in Kadam Rasul (Keshabpur) area of Chittagong’s Sitakunda upazila on March 4.
