Smart school buses have started in the city to remove the worries of parents about sending their children to educational institutions. Divisional Commissioner Tofail Islam started this official journey of smart bus by using smart card in front of digital attendance machine. After that, about 70 students from 12 educational institutions of the city pressed their smart cards and boarded the bus.
Tuesday (28 November) morning, smart school buses started plying on the road with students. This year every student will get transportation facility from any place in the city to the educational institution at the cost of 5. When students get on or off the bus, the parents will receive a short message when they press the smart card in front of the attendance machine. Apart from this, the location of buses and students can also be seen at home through GPS tracking and CCTV cameras. It is said that this smart school bus will have face recognition facility. The Chittagong district administration has implemented this project for the safe transportation of students of various educational institutions of the city, the suffering of the parents, traffic congestion and reducing fuel consumption.
10 school buses in the city have been made smart by installing GPS trackers, GIS technology, digital attendance devices and IP cameras. This project received the first award under the Smart District Innovation Challenge 23 last October. Initially a bus was inaugurated today. 10 school buses will run on the road at full speed from January. The project was launched by the district administration. However, it is the responsibility of the students to maintain it. With proper maintenance the project will last longer and the students will benefit more.
