Speakers at a memorial meeting here today stressed on preserving the memories of the martyrs of Anti-Discrimination Movement saying their supreme sacrifice will inspie the next generation to struggle for justice.
The July-August martyrs sacrificed their lives for building a discrimination-free society…Their sacrifice cannot go in vein. After hundred years from now, society will remember the heroes of this revolution as a source of inspiration for social change, they added.
They made the remarks while addressing the meeting at the Shilpokola Academy Auditorium in the city today. Khulna District Administration organized the memorial meeting with Khulna Divisional Commissioner Md Helal Mahmud Sharif as the chief guest.
At the very outset of the meeting, one minute silence was observed to pay respect to the memory of the martyrs of July-August uprising.
Speaking on the occasion, the speakers said people of the country got a new Bangladesh through the sacrifice of the students and people during Anti-Discrimination movement in July and August.
They added that the departed souls of the heroes of July-August uprising would get peace after fulfilling of their dreams.
Khulna Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Zulfiqar Ali Haider, Khulna Range DIG Md Rezaul Haque, Superintendent of Police T M Mossarraf Hossain, Civil Surgeon Sheikh Shafiqul Islam and Nurnahar, mother of martyr Sakib Raihan addressed the meeting as special guests with Khulna Deputy Commissioner Md saiful Islam in the chair.
Freedom fighter Md Moniruzzaman, General Secretary of Khulna Zila Imam Parishad Moulana Golam Kibria, senior journalists Sheikh Didarul Alam and Ehteshamul Haque Shawon, injured student Jibon Howlader, Students of Khulna University Al Shahriar, students of Government B L College Shahriar saad and Lamia Akter also took part in the discussion.
Later, a doa mahfil was held for seeking divine blessings of the departed souls of the martyrs and quick recovery of all injured students and people of the July-August uprising.
