Stress on quality seed production to ensure food security

Speakers at a workshop emphasised the need for more quality seed production to boost crop production and ensure food and nutrition security of the people of Bangladesh.

The workshop titled “PKSF’s initiatives to meet the demand for quality seeds” was held at the Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) building in Dhaka on Tuesday.

The speakers said the supply of quality seeds is a must for increasing the country’s agricultural production and ensuring food security.

Anwar Faruque, adviser of the Bangladesh Seed Association and former secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, was present as the chief guest at the workshop. Nomita Halder, managing director of PKSF, presided over the meeting.

Dr Shahjahan Kabir, director general of Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI), and Mostafizur Rahman, member director (seed and horticulture) of Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC), were special guests.

Dr Fazle Rabbi Sadeque Ahmed, deputy managing director of PKSF, gave the welcome speech while Tanvir Sultana, deputy general manager of PKSF, made a presentation on the activities of the Integrated Agriculture Unit.
