Suicide of young woman: Court bars Bashundhara MD from leaving country

A Dhaka court Tuesday ordered prohibiting Bashundhara Group Managing Director Sayem Sobhan Anvir from leaving the country following a case file against him over the suicide of a young woman in the city.

The police recovered the hanging body of the woman, Musharat Jahan Munia, from a flat in city’s Gulshan area on Monday night.

Musharat, 21, was a daughter of late Shafiqur Rahman, a freedom fighter of Monoharpur of Cumilla district.

The woman was the lone resident of the luxury flat on Road 120 of Gulshan circle 2 where her body was found. She was a twelve grader at a local college.

Her family resides in Cumilla town. Police informed that the managing director of a ‘leading business house’ used to often visit Musharat at the condominium.

Musharat told her elder sister Nushrat Jahanon Sunday over phone that she was ‘in trouble’ before taking her life on Monday. The victim’s sister rushed to Dhaka and saw her sister’s hanging body in the room.She then informed the landlord, who called in the police.

Nushrat told police that they knew that her sister and Anvir got married and that the tycoon used to visit her sibling in that apartment.

A case was filed over instigating the victim to commit suicide under section 306 of Bangladesh Penal Code with Gulshan Police Station around 1:30 am, on Tuesday.

The court ordered police to submit investigation report to it on May 30.
Sayem Sobhan Anvir is a son of Ahmed Akbar Sobhan, the Bashundhara Group’s chairman.
