Evercare Hospital Dhaka (EHD), the country’s first JCI-accredited hospital, arranged a press meet to announce the successful survival of one of the lowest birth weight premature babies to be born in Evercare Hospital Dhaka. The infant, born at just 25 weeks and 4 days gestation with a birth weight of 550 grams, has been discharged from the hospital after a remarkable 3 months and 26 days stay in the Neonatal Unit.
The baby was delivered by Dr. Nasrin Zulfiqar, an obstetrician at Evercare Hospital, through a caesarian section after the mother developed pre-eclampsia, and there was compromised fetus’s blood flow. The decision to deliver the baby was critical, as both the mother and the baby were at high risk of death if the pregnancy would have been continued. Following birth, the baby was admitted to the Neonatal Unit, where the baby received continuous care under the supervision of Dr. Abu Sayeed Mohammad Iqbal, Senior Consultant, Pediatrics & Neonatology, and Neonatal Intensivist.
Given the extreme prematurity of the baby, intensive neonatal support was required, including incubator care, ventilator life support, proper nutrition, electrolyte management, infection control, and round-the-clock nursing care.
“We are immensely grateful to the baby’s parents for their unwavering patience, cooperation, and support throughout this challenging journey. We also extend our heartfelt thanks to the entire neonatal team and all supporting departments at Evercare Hospital Dhaka for their dedicated efforts in ensuring the baby’s survival. The Neonatology team at Evercare Hospital Dhaka is committed to providing world-class care for premature babies.” said Dr. Abu Sayeed Mohammad Iqbal.
Dr. Arif Mahmud, Group Medical Director of Evercare Hospitals, Bangladesh said, “I would like to express my gratitude and appreciation to the whole Neonatology team, specially to Dr. Abu Sayeed Mohammad Iqbal and Dr. Nusrat Farooq for their excellent hard work. This is one of the milestones of the hospital. It indicates our commitment and dedication for the safety of the patients of Bangladesh.”
The press meet was graced by Evercare Hospital Dhaka’s Dr. Abu Sayeed Mohammad Iqbal, Senior Consultant, Pediatrics & Neonatology, and Neonatal Intensivist; Dr. Nusrat Farooq, Senior Consultant, Pediatrics & Neonatology, and Neonatal Intensivist; Dr. Monowara Begum, Senior Consultant of Obstetrics & Gynaecology; and Dr. Arif Mahmud, Group Medical Director of Evercare Hospitals, Bangladesh and other consultants.
