The hearing of the writ seeking a direction not to fire on the agitators was adjourned

Date of hearing and order of writ seeking direction not to fire on quota reform agitators and release of six coordinators from DB custody postponed. The next date of hearing will be announced later.

A High Court bench comprising Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice SM Masud Hossain Dolan was scheduled to hear the writ on Wednesday (July 31). Earlier, a writ was filed in the High Court last Monday (July 29) asking for an order not to fire on the quota reform agitators. At the same time, the writ petition sought the release of the six coordinators of the quota movement from DB custody. Supreme Court lawyers Manzoor Al Mateen Pritam and Ainunnahar Siddiqa Lipi filed this writ in the concerned branch of the High Court. In the writ, the Cabinet Secretary, Home Ministry Secretary, Inspector General of Police, Army Chief and other concerned persons were made defendants.

The hearing of the writ was held yesterday on Tuesday. Barrister Sara Hossain, Advocate ZI Khan Panna, Barrister Aneek R Haque, Advocate Manzoor Al Mateen Pritam and others heard on behalf of the writ in the court. On the other hand, Additional Attorney General SM Munir, Additional Attorney General Sheikh Md. Morsed and Additional Attorney General Barrister Mehdi Hasan Chowdhury.

In the hearing on this day, the court said, ‘All deaths are sad. We are ashamed of the violence and death of people around the quota reform movement. All matters are written in the constitution and law. But none of us are following the constitution, the law,” the court also commented.
