Threatening Shakib: HC asks why Mohsin shouldn’t be granted bail

The High Court on Tuesday issued a rule asking the government to explain as to why Mohsin Talukdar, who had threatened to kill cricketer Shakib Al Hasan, should not be granted bail.

The HC bench of Justice Jahangir Hossain and Justice Md. Badruzzaman issued the rule.

Deputy Attorney General Dr Mohammad Bashir Ullah represented the state while Advocate Abdul Halim stood for the accused.

Mohammad Bashir Ullah said the High Court did not granted bail to Mohsin in a case filed under the Digital Security Act but issued a rule.

On November 15, last year, Mohsin brandished a sharp weapon on a Facebook live and threatened to kill the 33-year-old cricketer for allegedly attending a ceremony in Kolkata dedicated to a Hindu goddess.

As Mohsin’s threat and name-calling sparked sharp criticism, the law enforcers started a manhunt to arrest him.

However, Shakib apologized to the fans on November 16, 2020 in a video. He never inaugurated Kali puja as it was being claimed on social media and had only participated in an event near the puja pandal, the all-rounder also said.

On November 16, the same year, police filed a case against Mohsin under the Digital Security Act with Jalalabad Police Station.

Later, he was arrested by the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) from Maigon in South Sunamganj on November 17, 2020.

Mohsin Talukdar, is the son of Azad Baksh of Shahpur Talukdarpara in Jalalabad area.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on November 18, last appointed a gunman for the security of Shakib.
