Railway police arrested a train attendant from Lalmonirhat-bound inter city train Lalmoni Express on charge of raping a 15-year-old girl on Wednesday.
The police have filed a case with Lalmonirhat Railway Police Station in the incident.
The victim has been sent to hospital for medical test. The victim’s home is in Mymensingh.
The arrested was Akkas Ali, hailed from Barishal Sadar Upazila’s Patang area. He has been sent to jail following court order.
According to Lalmonirhat Railway Police Station, the Lalmoni Express train left Kamalapur Rail Station in Dhaka for Lalmonirhat after 12:00 am on Wednesday. In the middle of the night, the sixth grader girl, who was waiting at Joydebpur Rail Station for going to Mymensingh, mistakenly boarded the Lalmoni Express. At the time of ticket checking, the accused attendant immediately seated her in a seat as she did not have a ticket. Then, in the morning, he took her in an empty cabin of the train and raped around 8 am.
Later, on hearing the girl’s cries, the policemen in the train rescued the victim and arrested the accused Akkas Ali.
Lalmonirhat Railway Police Station officer-in-charge Ferdous Ali said ASI Ruhul Amin of the police station filed a case as the plaintiff. The accused was arrested and sent to jail. However, it has not been possible to contact anyone from the girl’s family so far.
