TTE Shafiqul gets clean chit

The allegation that Travelling Ticket Examiner Md Shafiqul Islam misbehaved with three train passengers and fined them for travelling without tickets has been found false, finds a railway probe body.

The three-member commmittee submitted a report to the manager of Pakshey Railway Division yesterday.

“We have found the allegations against Shafiqul Islam untrue,” said Sajidul Islam, assistant transportation officer at Pakshey Railway Division, who led the probe body.

“We have come to this conclusion after taking to nine people, including the complainant, accused and some of those who were present at the scene,” he added.

“There were no issues between the accused and the complainant Emrul Kayes Pranto regarding the fare. The guard of the compartment persuaded Emrul to lodge the complaint against him [TTE Shafiqul],” Sajidul added.

Asked about the involvement of the railways minister’s wife in the incident, he said, “It was not the matter of the enquiry by this committee.”

Sajidul added that after the probe, the committee made three recommendations — reinstatement TTE Shafiqul to his position, departmental action against the guard who instigated the complainant, and Emrul be made to apologise in front of the media for his actions.

On May 5, TTE Shafiqul from the Pakshey Division of Bangladesh Railways was suspended after he fined three passengers who was travelling without tickets, introducing themselves as the railways minister relatives.

Emrul is a nephew of the wife of Railways Minister Nurul Islam Sujan.
