Two killed in Brahmanbaria road accident

Two passengers of a CNG-run auto rickshaw were killed and another was injured after being hit by a drum truck on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Bertala area under Sarail upazila of the district today.

The deceased were identified as Abdur Rahman, 55, son of late Abdul Khalek of Shonaisa village of the Sadar upazila and Iqbal Hossain, 32, son of Ansar Ali of Subidpur village under Lakhai upazila of Habiganj district.

The accident occurred when a Sarail highway-bound drum truck from Ashuganj hit a standing CNG-run auto rickshaw in the area around 10am this morning, leaving CNG passenger Abdur Rahman dead on the spot and two passengers seriously injured, officer-in-charge (OC) of Khatihata Highway Police Station Akul Chandra Biswas said.

The injured were taken to Brahmanbaria General Hospital, where Iqbal Hossain died while undergoing treatment.

Police seized the drum truck but its driver escaped, he said.

The bodies have been sent to Brahmanbaria General Hospital morgue for post-mortem, he added.
