The newly elected MP of the Habiganj-4 constituency Syed Sayedul Haque known as ‘Barrister Sumon’ took initiative to clean the Khowai River at Chunarughat Municipality in Habiganj town on Friday morning.
Around 600 members of ‘BD Clean’, a voluntary organisation, have been assisting him clean-up the garbage that piled up in 50 years in the river.
This is the first project taken by Sumon after being elected as MP in the constituency.
Barrister Sumon said to protect the Chunarughat town from flood, the river flow had been altered 50 years ago and since then it became an abandoned water body. It had been turned into a garbage dump yard. But it could be a tourist spot, he added.
He said by cleaning the river, he started his work. Walkway will be built in both sides of the water body so that people could enjoy its benefits. He also thanked the members of the BD clean for their active participation in the project.
A businessman of the area Jahangir Alam said Chunarughat would be beautiful town after completion of the project. He also appreciated the MP Sumon for his initiative.
