The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has announced a sit-in programme across the country on 1 April.
“The government has forced BNP to announce the programme even though it did not want to do political programmes in the month of Ramadan,” said BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at an iftar mahfil organised in honour of Ulama Mashaikh and orphans at the Ladies Club in the capital on Friday (24 March).
Mentioning price hikes of essential commodities, Fakhrul said, “General public of the country are living in hardship. The country has a government that is not elected. BNP is continuing its movement to demand elections under a caretaker government. The movement will continue throughout the country even during Ramadan.”
BNP has announced a new set of programmes for their 10-point demand that includes elections under a neutral caretaker government.
On 1 April, the sit-in protest will be held in all cities and districts across the country from 2 pm to 4 pm to protest against the rising prices of electricity and gas, the corruption of the government, and for the implementation of BNP’s 10-point demand.
Besides, BNP will also hold sit-in protests on 8 April from 3 pm to 5 pm in all metropolitan thanas and district upazilas.
