BNP expels 3 Jubo Dal leaders for attacking journos

Three leaders of the Dhaka North unit of Jubo Dal, the youth wing of the BNP, have been expelled for attacking journalists at an iftar party in Dhaka’s Mirpur-2.

Jubo Dal Office Secretary Kamruzzaman Dulal on Saturday said four others were served show-cause notices in this connection.

At the same time, a committee has been formed to investigate the incident, he said.

Jubo Dal President Sultan Salahuddin Tuku and acting general secretary Shafiqul Islam Milton have already executed the decision to expel those three people, he added.

The expelled Jubo Dal leaders are Md Ismail Hossain, Md Asif and Jewel Khan.

They were expelled from the organization for being involved in anti-organizational activities and creating chaos, said Kamruzzaman Dulal.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir called the injured journalists and inquired about them, he said.

“Besides, BNP leaders Amanullah Aman, Shaheed Uddin Chowdhury Annie and Shayrul Kabir Khan went to journalist Imrul Ahsan Jony’s house to observe his situation,” he added.

However, the journalists who were present at the time of the incident said that BNP has not taken any decision regarding the main culprit in the incident, Jubo Dal leader Milton.

The iftar party was arranged by BNP’s Pallabi and Rupnagar thana units on Friday. Acting chairperson Tarique Rahman gave a speech addressing the attendees over Skype from London, UK.

Some BNP leaders and activists locked into an altercation at the venue with journalists who had gone there to cover the program.

At one stage, they attacked journalists, injuring some media workers, including NTV special correspondent Imrul Ahsan Jony, Desh TV cameraperson Ujjal and News24 cameraperson Ajnabi, reports.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said: “I want to ask BNP Pallabi unit leaders if they actually love the party. Such an incident would not have happeded if you did.

“You do not know how to respect guests. You caused the incident when our acting chairperson was giving a speech. I beseech you, please be disciplined. I implore Chhatra Dal, Jubo Dal, Swecchasebak Dal and BNP leaders to become organized. No war can be won without discipline.”

He later expressed deep sorrow over the incident, alleging that some agents of the government masquerading as BNP activists came to the iftar party and created the untoward incident.
