BNP-Jamaat taking preparation to commit major violence: Quader

Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader has anticipated that the BNP-Jamaat are taking preparation to commit major violence in the country.

He made the remark while addressing a press conference at the Awami League president’s political office at Dhanmondi in the capital early Friday afternoon.

“Why are you saying that the violence which has now remained stopped is permanent? It can’t yet be predicted. They may take preparation to commit major violence. They are taking preparation internally. They are accumulating strength to commit major violence,” he said.

Criticising BNP standing committee member Moyeen Khan’s Thursday’s remarks that the people of this country have tarnished the image of the ‘fascist government’ by not voting on January 7 election, Obaidul Quader said he himself tarnished his image by uttering lies.

Moyeen Khan said people around the world called the election a drama and a farce.

“Which country has termed the election a drama and farce? Rather, European Union and neighbouring countries greeted Sheikh Hasina for her party’s victory in the election,” Quader said.

Despite the participation of all political parties, he said the voter turnout is not seen above 40 per cent in many countries of the world.

“We know that about 25-30 percent of voter turnout is seen in many countries, including in Europe. Sometimes it gets less than that,” he said.

The Awami League general secretary the first session of the 12th Jatiya Sangsad will start on January 30. “We can claim that there is democratic continuity in the country because of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s bravery. Even after the elections, terrorists identified under the leadership of BNP are hatching plots.”.

AL organising secretaries BM Mozammel Huque, Mirza Azam, Afzal Hossain and Sujit Roy Nandi, office secretary Barrister Biplab Barua and deputy office secretary Sayem Khan were, among others, present at the press conference.
