BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul denied bail

A Dhaka court on Wednesday rejected the bail petition of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in connection with a vandalism case.

Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Acting Judge Faisal Atiq Bin Quader’s court pronounced the verdict upon the conclusion of the hearing on the case filed against Fakhrul in connection with the attack on the chief justice’s residence during the party’s rally on October 28.

Advocate Masud Ahmed Talukder, Md Asaduzzaman, Bodruddoza Badal, and Syed Zainul Abedin Mejbah pleaded on behalf of Fakhrul, while Dhaka Metropolitan Public Prosecutor Abdullah Abu Jamin opposed, representing the state.

Earlier on Monday, the same court fixed November 22 for hearing the bail petition of Mirza Fakhrul.

On November 2, Advocate Joynul Abedin filed a petition seeking bail for the BNP leader and the court fixed November 20 for hearing.

On October 30, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shafi Uddin sent Fakhrul to jail in connection with the case after the investigation officer produced him before the court with a plea to keep him in jail.

Detective Branch (DB) of Police detained Fakhrul from his Gulshan residence on October 29.

Around 10 hours after his detention, Mirza Fakhrul was arrested in the case. Fakhrul among 59 leaders and activists were accused in the case filed with Ramna Police Station.
