The Election Commission (EC) will consider reschedule of the election if BNP wants to join the upcoming national election.
Election Commissioner Rashida Sultana came up with the remark while responding to queries of journalists at her office at the Election Commission Secretariat on Monday.
“I will not elaborate on the matter right now. If they come, we, the Election Commissioners, will sit and look into the legal aspects. I cannot say anything in advance”, she said.
Asked whether there will be any scope for BNP and other parties to join the polls, Rashida said, “They participated in the election in 2028 and a space was made for them. If they want to participate in the election, we will surely discuss to find a way. We will take a decision and we will give them a space. We will welcome them if they decide to come.”
About the Jatiya Party’s appeal to the President seeking reschedule of the election, she said, “We will not say anything about this matter. We haven’t reached the stage of saying anything in advance. When he comes, we will say what will happen. We will make a decision after observing the situation. We will not say anything in advance about this.”
