Mirza Fakhrul inaugurates 2-day ‘Jago Bahe, Teesta Bachao’ programme

A two-day programme titled ‘Jago Bahe, Teesta Bachao’ begun today across a 130-kilometer area of five northern districts on the banks of Teesta demanding inking Teesta water sharing agreement with India and implementation of the master plan to protect the river.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir inaugurated the programme at Teesta Railway Bridge adjacent char in Rangpur this afternoon.

BNP and its allies participated in the programme under the banner of the Teesta River Protection Movement.

As part of the programme, Teesta River Protection Movement Committee will hold rallies, marches, and cultural performances at 11 points in Lalmonirhat, Kurigram, Nilphamari, Rangpur, and Gaibandha districts bordering the Teesta River.

Rangpur district’s programme is being held on the premises of Kaunia Railway Bridge and Gangachara Mahipur Bazar.

According to BNP media cell, party’s acting Chairman Tarique Rahman will join the programme at 11 points in five districts virtually tomorrow evening.

Leaders of various political parties, including BNP’s central leaders, have already reach the bank of Teesta to express solidarity.

BNP Standing Committee members Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, Major (Retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikram, Vice Chairman Barkat Ullah Bulu, Shamsuzzaman Dudu, Jatiya Party Chairman Mustafa Jamal Haider, Biplobi Workers Party General Secretary Saiful Haque and Ganosamhati Andolon Chief Coordinator Jonayed Saki were present at different points of the rally.
