Our only demand is PM’s resignation: BNP

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said on Friday their only demand revolves around the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

During his address at the procession organised by Dhaka Metropolitan North BNP on Friday, Fakhrul said, “This administration has dismantled all of our nation’s achievements, including the integrity of the judiciary.”

He added, “Despite incarcerating our party members, the government could not suppress our movement.”

Reiterating his party’s unwavering standpoint, the BNP secretary general asserted that there will be no election conducted under Sheikh Hasina’s governance.

He urged for the dissolution of the Election Commission and the formation of a new election commission.

“Eighteen crore people of the nation stand united against this government. This movement is one of paramount significance, a do-or-die endeavor that cannot be quelled by any means,” Fakhrul told the procession.

He said, “This battle is now a fight to reinstate democracy and to secure the freedom of Khaleda Zia.”

Mirza Abbas, a BNP Standing Committee Member, echoed Mirza Fakhrul’s call for the dissolution of the parliament and the conduct of elections under a non-partisan government.

“We do not accept this Election Commission that adheres to unjust directives of the government. They possess no constitutional authority to oversee elections. An election without a non-partisan government in place is out of the question,” asserted Mirza Abbas while addressing the procession organised by Dhaka South BNP as part of the concurrent movement.

Another BNP Standing Committee Member Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan, urged the government to transfer power to a caretaker government following resignation.

Ruhul Kabir Rizvi stated, “The people of the country are awakening to the situation. They are demanding the resignation of the Sheikh Hasina government.”
