Nagorik Oikya President Mahmudur Rahman Manna on Monday said people will again take to the streets in the capital to ensure the fall of the current Awami League government.
“This Parliament can’t function. They (AL leaders) are disappointed, not us. Common people gave us all-out support by not going to cast their votes (on January 7),” he said.
Speaking at a human chain programme, Manna called upon people from all walks of life to take to the streets with courage.
“The day is not far away when you will see that this Dhaka city will be filled with processions…we’re carrying that movement. There is no disappointment among us about that (January-7 election),” he said.
Desh Bachao Manush Bachao Andolon, a pro-BNP platform, formed the human chain in front of the Jatiya Press Club, demanding the unconditional release of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and other arrested opposition leaders and workers.
Manna said there is no reason for the opposition parties to get disappointed as the major democratic countries in the world did not recognise the 12th parliamentary election held on January 7.
He said the ruling leaders have become upset by holding the election with the help of police and bureaucracy after having failed to get support from the people.
