Police asked to quiz Fakhrul, Khasru at jail gate

A magistrate court in Dhaka on Monday asked police to interrogate main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and standing committee member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury at jail gate for two days in a case filed on charge of attacking Paltan Police Station and assaulting police on October 28.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury passed the order, rejecting petitions seeking their bail and police appeal seeking a 10-day remand in police custody for interrogation in the case.

Earlier on the day, sub-inspector Sumit Kumar Saha of Paltan Police Station and also investigation officer of the case, produced them with a 10-day remand prayer for interrogation.

Opposing the remand plea, defence lawyers submitted bail petitions for the two BNP leaders.

The court rejected both the petitions and asked police to interrogate them at jail gate.

According to the case statement, BNP leaders and activists and its front organisations, as per direction from Fakhrul and Amir Khosru, gathered in front of Paltan Model Police Station at a political programme at about 3:00pm on October 28.

Then they exploded crude bombs, attacked the police station, assaulted policemen and prevented them from discharging their duties.

Later, police filed a case against Fakhrul, Amir Khasru and 102 others with Paltan Police Station.

On October 29, Fakhrul was arrested in connection with a case filed with Ramna Police Station over the attack on the residence of the chief justice during a clash with policemen on October 28.
