The candidacy of Jhalakathi-1 Awami League candidate Shahjahan Omar will remain valid, according to the Election Commission’s decision on Friday.
The EC took the decision after hearing an appeal of AL’s central leader of the same area and independent candidate Muniruzzaman Munir, who alleged that Omar concealed information in his affidavit about cases filed against him.
Shahjahan Omar was the vice chairman of opposition BNP. He came out of jail and announced that he would contest the national election as a AL nominee.
