Khaled Mahmud Sujan spoke a lot about the experienced and senior all-rounder and former captain of T20 team Mahmudullah Riyad, besides talking about the country’s cricket, national team, national team selection, while attending the National Mourning Day program at Home of Cricket.
Apart from this, the former captain also expressed his opinion about the retirement of the national team cricketers. The question was mainly about the retirement of Mahmudullah Riyad. Is it now the actual time of retirement?
In explaining such a question, former captain of the national team Sujan gave a suggestion to his successors in many words. Sujan’s main message about retirement is that at some point, cricketers have to understand when and where to stop.?
Sujan’s words, ‘I said goodbye from the field. I realized my time was up. The young stars have arrived. If I don’t leave then how new faces will come is also a big issue. So it’s up to the players to decide. Which is the right time to say ‘goodbye.’
Sujan explores the reasons why today’s cricketers hesitate and delay in announcing their retirement. Sujan added, ‘We played for very little money. That was our love then. There was no profession. Our love was in cricket. We were able to leave. I don’t know why our generation boys don’t want to leave it, why are they afraid. But a time has to be left.’
His predecessors Akram Khan and Minhajul Abedin Nannu and contemporaries Habibul Bashar called Sujan, left Akram Bhai. Nannu Bhai was the best batsman in Bangladesh, he also left.
Habibul Bashar was once called Mr. Fifty, captained Bangladesh and scored many runs. Everyone left. To be honest, we give many examples of leaving the field like other teams do.
Do you say Steward Broad could not still play in the England team? Why did he leave? My point is that you have to know, when you have to give a full stop. You should know this. So with all respect to the players I think it’s their personal matter. None of us can force.
We have no right to say that you are of retirement age. They Will Think About Them. Actually I shouldn’t retire I should play. If I don’t think I should play more, I will play two or three more years – fine enough. Then it can’t, can’t exclude me. You can drop out, if your form is everything you consider. May give chance to another boy in your place. In fact, there is a lot of debate about this, but as I said a little earlier, I always say that the value of a time experience is definitely much higher.
But it is also very important that we do not get into a team-building position without fresh legs, but it will not happen. You see at one time, Bangladesh is bringing cricket to this place but Mashrafe, Shakib, Mahmudullah Tamim, Mushi contributed a lot. We frankly admit it.
But they will not play in Bangladesh team all their life. Mashrafe is not playing or Mushy has left the T20 format. Tamim has left a format. So this way we have to slowly wrap everyone up. Bangladesh cricket will stop if they fold, then it won’t happen.
