Fahim prepares an outline for BCB’s much-needed reform

Nazmul Abedin Fahim, the national award-winning coach and a renowned cricket analyst of the country prepared an outline for a much-needed reform in the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

He said the reform is imperative for the betterment of the cricket which has been in ups and downs since elevating as a Test nation in 2000.

“We have been thinking about it (outline) for years, especially me. There is  deficiency in some places and it should be fixed for the betterment of cricket,” Fahim said while addressing the media at BCB headquarters at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur today.

“We have to think what resources we have, with which we can overcome those problems. Maybe I will talk about it in the future. In some places we are lagging behind, but there is no reason for us to be behind in that place,” he said.

Fahim has been with cricket for a long time. He started working as a cricket coach in BCB and thereafter worked in High Performance (HP) department. The HP is responsible to produce the future starts by nurturing the talented players.

After leaving BCB, he has been a cricket advisor of BKSP for a long time.

He also participated in the last BCB election. The veteran coach who has been vocal about the corruption in BCB fought against Khaled Mahmud Sujon in category-3 in BCB elections but he eventually ended up losing.

Fahim said that he is keen to discuss with the Adviser of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Interim Government Asif Mahmud in this regard.

“If there is an opportunity to give input, I will definitely do it. Not only from me, but also ideas should be taken from those who are aware of these matters. Then it is easy to make a decision,” he added.

“If I do something formally, I will definitely talk. I would like to come up with a comprehensive outline to help those who are in charge. I repeat, it is none of my business. As far as I am concerned the advisers want to fix the system. Those who can run the system well deserve to come to the cricket board.”

Fahim thinks that there are many competent people in the country and outside the country to take the charge of BCB.

“Those who truly want to work for the betterment of the cricket, they should come here. Cricket is a game which can represent Bangladesh well in the world. Having the right person in the top post is very important here. There are many people who are experienced enough to take the charge,” he added.

Fahim said that change in BCB is highly imperative at this moment in a bid to protect it from being ruined completely.

“As I have had the opportunity to see closely, I don’t think BCB is a very disciplined organization. BCB may seem like a great organization from the outside. The opportunity that BCB had, was not utilized to the maximum,” he said.

“I think there needs to be a change here. The irregularity that is happening here needs to be fixed.”

After the fall of the government, Bangladesh ‘A’ team’s tour of Pakistan was postponed by three days. Practice for the upcoming Pakistan series has not started yet. No member of the coaching staff is there to supervise the practice at this moment. Those who were in charge to see all this are not coming to BCB now.

Criticizing them, Fahim said, “If they were the true servants of cricket, they would have come.”

“I don’t think they were the servants of cricket. They had their own agenda. They implemented that agenda. We have seen what happened to cricket. You know the club cricket has been ruined completely and now the whole cricket is being ruined,” he added.
