Ireland upsets England in rain-hit match

Ireland beat England by five runs in the rain-hit match in Melbourne on Wednesday. It was one of the biggest upsets in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup so far.

Ireland posted a decent total of 157. While chasing, England lost five scoring 105 runs in 14.3 overs before the rain came in.

The match was never resumed after that and Ireland won the match by 5 runs.

When the umpires sent the players back to the dressing room due to rain, Moeen Ali was batting well and trying to place England in a position to win the match. But eventually, he was not able to rescue the English this time.

Andy Balbirnie, the captain, was the hero of Ireland in this already-famous victory. He scored a quick fire 62 off 47 balls, and while bowling, he rotated the bowlers expertly.

For England, Mark Wood and Liam Livingstone bagged three wickets each.

In reply, England lost their captain and opener Joshua Little in the first over bowled by Joshua Little. Inside 29, England lost three wickets.

Dawid Malan helped the English to come out of initial damage scoring 35. But a slow strike rate haunts them badly. Moeen came to bat at six and scored 24 off just 12 balls before the rain halted the match.

Joshua was Ireland’s best bowler taking two wickets conceding 16 off three overs.

With this win, Ireland put their foot on a possible semi-final berth. They will take on the ever-improving Asian side of Afghanistan on Friday at the same venue. A win in that match will surely set them one step ahead to the semifinals.
