Spencer Dinwiddie to join Lakers after clearing waivers

Report: Spencer Dinwiddie to join Lakers after clearing waivers – Free agent guard Spencer Dinwiddie will sign with the Los Angeles Lakers after he clears waivers on Saturday, The Athletic reported.
Dinwiddie, 30, was traded to the Toronto Raptors from the Brooklyn Nets on Thursday in exchange for guard Dennis Schroder and forward Thaddeus Young. He subsequently was waived by the Raptors.
The veteran, who was born in Los Angeles, attended the Lakers’ 139-122 win over the New Orleans Pelicans on Friday along with his agent, Jason Glushon of Glushon Sports Management. They sat with Lakers vice president of basketball operations and general manager Rob Pelinka.
Dinwiddie then visited the Lakers players and coaches in the locker room following the game.
Lakers superstar LeBron James was asked what Dinwiddie would bring to the table should he join the team.
“Playmaking, another ball handler, another shotmaker,” James said, per ESPN. “Another guy, another veteran. Anytime you can add a veteran with that ability, it helps. So we’ll see what happens.”
Dinwiddie appeared in 48 games (all starts) for Brooklyn and is averaging 12.6 points, 6.0 assists, 3.3 rebounds. He is shooting 39.1 percent from the field and 32 percent from 3-point range.
Detroit drafted Dinwiddie in the second round of the 2014 draft pout of Colorado. He sports career averages of 13.6 points, 5.3 assists and 3.1 rebounds across 514 games (311 starts), spending time with the Pistons, Washington Wizards and Dallas Mavericks in addition to two stints with the Nets.
