Shakib Al Hasan will sit with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan Papon within a couple of days to discuss about his future plan.
The ace allrounder will particularly let BCB know about his decision on the upcoming South Africa tour. But BCB’s Cricket Operations Chairman Jalal Younus said, the president is also expecting to know Shakib’s plan for future series also as Bangladesh are going to play a lot of matches in all three formats in the coming one year.
“Shakib will sit with BCB president to discuss about his plan, particularly for the South Africa series. But we also expect that he would discuss in details about his plan for the coming one year. Then it will be possible for BCB to take a decision on what to do if Shakib is not available for any particular series,” Younus said here today.
Shakib earlier wrote to BCB, seeking a permission to allow him a six-month break from the Test cricket, which also saw him to get a break from South Africa tout. He particularly wrote the letter, thinking that he would get a team in IPL. The BCB also allowed him to take a break.
But since he didn’t get any team in the IPL auction, that plan is now invalid and the BCB wanted to know his current decision on South Africa tour. In the context, Shakib informed the BCB president that he is keen to sit with him to discuss about his future plan after the Afghanistan ODI series.
Younus said they don’t want to force any player to play any format of cricket.
“The cricketers should have the freedom to choose any particular format of cricket. There’s no point of forcing anyone,” he added.
He further said that after knowing about Shakib’s plan, the BCB would release the contract of the cricketer for this year.
“The players have been given the freedom to choose the format. If anyone wants to drop any format, he can but he would have to inform us. The players had already informed us about the format they want to play. In that context, we will release the players’ contract.”
