Temperature in Kurigram drops to 11 degrees Celsius

Cold weather and dense fog have disrupted life in Kurigram as the temperature dropped to 11 degrees Celsius.

The extreme weather conditions have particularly affected children, the elderly, day labourers, and those in underprivileged communities.

In this situation, the hardest-hit are the labourers and agricultural workers as they have to remain indoor amid dense fog and bone-chilling cold.

The Kurigram Weather Office on Thursday reported that the district has recorded the lowest temperature of this season with 11 degrees Celsius. Over the past two weeks, the temperature in this region has been between 11 to 18 degrees Celsius.

Monsur Ali, a resident of Dinajpur Sadar Union, said that it has been very cold for the past few days, making work on fields difficult.

“Nobody has provided us with blankets yet, which are much needed at present.”

Abdul Gafur, the chairman of Jatrapur Union Parishad (UP), said, “Most of the areas in my union are near rivers and chars. The coldest weather is felt here. So far, no winter relief item has been received from the government. If we get winter clothing, distribution will be done here.”

Subol Chandra Sarkar, a weather official at the Kurigram Rajarhat Weather Office, said that the minimum temperature recorded in the district was 11 degrees Celsius at 6 am on Thursday. He added that the temperature might drop even further in the coming days.
