Bangladesh will observe the World Meteorological Day on Tuesday with the theme “The Ocean, Our climate and Weather.”
The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and its 191 member states and territories including Bangladesh observe the day on March 23 every year with different programmes.
The ocean plays a central role in changing the weather and climate globally.
The role of the ocean has been given priority in this year’s theme to reduce and absorb the excessive heat created by human activities, the formation of tropical cyclones and disasters, weather variability and forecasting.
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has taken the initiative to observe the “World Meteorological Day 2021.”
The day will be observed with different programmes at the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) headquarters in the city and at the divisional offices along with its significant branch offices across the country.
An exhibition of meteorological instruments and a documentary screening on related issues will be held at the headquarters for the public from 3pm to 5pm.
A technical session will be conducted by the Officers’ Association of the BMD. Bangladesh Betar and Bangladesh Television will air special programmes.
Also, the operational units and radar stations of Dhaka, Cox’s Bazar, Khepupara, Rangpur and Moulvibazar will remain open to visitors for the public.
