BRB hospitals have launched a Breast Cancer Awareness Service Week 2021 for creating awareness about breast cancer, a press release said.
A special awareness program and discussion program was organized by BRB Hospital on Tuesday (31st August) at Panthapath in the capital.
Professor Dr. M A Hai, President, Oncology Club, Bangladesh was present as the chief guest at the event while honorable Director of BRB Group. Md. Mofizur Rahaman and Prof. Dr. Mofazzal Hossain (Lt. Colonel Ab :), Chief Consultant, Medical Oncology, BRB Hospital Limited were present as special guests.
British oncoplastic breast surgeon Dr. SK Farid Ahmed, Chief Consultant, BRB Breast Unit was the main speaker at the event.
. The event was attended by the consultants of the hospital including the patients undergoing treatment from the breast unit of BRB Hospital, department heads of other departments and other officers and employees of the hospital.
The speakers mentioned that one out of every eight women in the world is suffering from breast cancer. Men are also getting this cancer. According to the international organization IARC, more than 13,000 women are newly diagnosed with breast cancer in Bangladesh every year. If breast cancer can be detected quickly at an early stage, it can be completely cured.
The speakers also said that radio frequency identification has been and is being done in the first BRB hospital in Asia. The only BRB hospital in Bangladesh for breast cancer is providing equivalent medical services in England.
