BGMEA chief for tightening ties with Germany

BGMEA President Faruque Hassan has underscored the need for intensifying cooperation and collaboration between Germany and Bangladesh to unlock trade and investment potential, a press release said Tuesday.

He sought the cooperation and support of Germany for the sustainable development of Bangladesh’s RMG industry, especially in the area of environmental sustainability and skill development and also in expanding Bangladesh’s RMG exports to Germany.

He made the call during his meeting with German Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) Dr Bärbel Kofler in Dhaka on October 29.

Members of Germen Parliament and senior German government officials attended the dinner meeting hosted by the Embassy of Germany in Dhaka on the occasion of Dr. Kofler’s visit to Bangladesh.

The meeting focused on prospects and challenges in the RMG sector in the view of Bangladesh’s graduation from LDC and the new supply chain law in Germany and Europe.

They also discussed the implications of the due diligence on the suppliers and workers and ways to continue business in compliance with the new law.

Faruque Hassan expressed high optimism of working collaboratively involving governments, buyers and suppliers in building a better supply chain that would benefit all parties.

BGMEA President Faruque Hassan invited Dr Bärbel Kofler to the “Made in Bangladesh Week” which will be organized by BGMEA on 12-18 November 2022 in Dhaka to promote Bangladesh and the RMG industry internationally.

Executive President of BKMEA Mohammad Hatem was present at the meeting.
