BGMEA President calls on Decathlon to source more from Bangladesh

Bangladesh is working to increase its apparel export share in the global market with value-added products, especially by shifting more towards man-made fibre (MMF) based garments.

Bangladeshi garments factories were increasingly focusing on scaling up their capabilities in manufacturing high-end apparel while investing hugely to make production processes more efficient and sustainable, he said.

He also said Bangladesh had already attained global reputation as a safe and sustainable sourcing destination, boosting buyer’s confidence and interest in buying more garments from Bangladesh.

His comments came during a meeting with Vivek Kunwar, Country Manager for Decathlon in Bangladesh, who paid a visit to BGMEA on December 11.

BGMEA Vice President (Finance) Khandoker Rafiqul Islam, Vice President Md. Nasir Uddin and Vice President Miran Ali were also present at the meeting.

They discussed various trade-related issues including the current market situation, global trends, and Decathlon’s business plans in Bangladesh.

Faruque Hassan requested Decathlon to explore business opportunities in Bangladesh and increase its sourcing from the country. He also called on the globally renowned sporting goods retailer to strengthen collaboration with Bangladeshi suppliers to build a long-term business partnerships.
