Bangladesh, Norway keen to strengthen climate cooperation: Saber

Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Saber Hossain Chowdhury today said bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Norway will be stronger in the fields of climate change, environment and forestry resources focusing on research at institutional levels.

“The two countries will be working closely in the key issues of mutual interest in the days to come,” he said while outgoing Norwegian Ambassador in Dhaka Espen Rikter-Svendsen paid a courtesy call on him at his secretariat office here.

Environment Secretary Dr Farhina Ahmed was present on the occasion.

Saber Hossain Chowdhury thanked the Norwegian Ambassador for contributing greatly to enhanced bilateral engagement, building on existing areas of cooperation and opening new chapters.

He said during term of the Norwegian envoy, the Bangladesh-Norway relations have deepened and this provides a solid base for expanding the scope of our mutual cooperation further.

The environment minister also outlined Bangladesh’s recent initiatives and future plans in the areas of renewable energy, forest conservation and climate adaptation.

Ambassador Rikter-Svendsen expressed Norway’s continued support for Bangladesh’s efforts to combat climate change and preserve its rich biodiversity.

He stressed international cooperation in addressing global environmental challenges and highlighted Norway’s commitment to providing technical and financial assistance to support Bangladesh’s environmental initiatives.

Both of them agreed on the necessity of enhancing cooperation and exploring new areas of partnership to further their shared environmental goals.

The meeting concluded with a commitment to continue working closely together to address environmental and climate challenges, ensuring sustainable development for both nations.
