BRAC Bank has conducted a sensitisation workshop on disability inclusion in collaboration with the Bangladesh Business and Disability Network (BBDN), under its flagship CSR programme ‘Aporajeyo Ami’.
The session, held on November 24, 2024, aimed to inspire 30 members from the Young Leaders (YL) batches of 2022 and 2023 to embrace inclusivity in the workplace.
The three-hour workshop was designed to break myths, stigma, and stereotypes about disabilities while fostering awareness about the barriers faced by persons with disabilities.
It also highlighted practical approaches to creating an enabling environment for employees and customers with disabilities within financial services and beyond.
The sessions, led by Aziza Ahmed, Development Professional at BBDN, covered various topics, including the conceptual understanding of disability, the identification of barriers and enablers within the banking context, global good practices, relevant laws and policies, and the benefits of becoming a disability-confident employer.
Participants engaged in discussions, group activities, and presentations facilitated by experienced professionals, including Arup Chowdhury, Sharlin Akhter, and Rubaiya Sultana.
A highlight of the event was the story shared by Amjad Hossain, a visually impaired coworker working in BRAC Bank’s Alternate Banking Channel. His inspiring journey underscored the importance of breaking down barriers and fostering an inclusive culture.
Reflecting on the workshop, Akhteruddin Mahmood, Head of Human Resources at BRAC Bank, said, “At BRAC Bank, we believe in empowering all individuals, regardless of their abilities. This workshop is a crucial step in ensuring our Young Leaders not only understand the challenges faced by persons with disabilities but also champion inclusivity as they grow into future leaders.”
This initiative reflects the bank’s dedication to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace and encouraging broader societal awareness. Through such programmes, BRAC Bank continues to lead by example in creating a sustainable and inclusive future.
